TechStudents.net Provides Unique, Affordable Resources and Valuable Online Tech Tips for Small Businesses & Entrepreneurs

Founder Jennifer "JJ" DiGeronimo's Innovative Site Connects

College Tech Students with Small Businesses Needing Tech Help Nationwide

Cleveland - TechStudents.net is a unique website and service connecting tech savvy college students to small businesses, entrepreneurs and nonprofits looking for affordable tech help.  Businesses can access free tips or hire tech students on a project basis to assist with work such as websites, graphic design and software development, for as little as $10/hour.

TechStudents.net represents students from over 300 national technology programs and has a network of more than 1100 businesses and students combined.  The site receives an impressive 2100 “hits” weekly.

The concept for TechStudents.net came about while founder JJ DiGeronimo was teaching technology classes and mentoring businesses.  DiGeronimo realized college students had key skills that could immediately benefit small businesses in need of affordable tech help.  A self-proclaimed "connector," DiGeronimo used her years of technology expertise and work with tech students to create an online resource connecting small businesses to affordable technology services.

To support the next-generation technology workforce while showcasing students’ value, TechStudents.net just awarded a $500 scholarship.  The submission process required essays positioned as technology guides for small businesses.  Chosen out of 230 applicants, the winner, Rajiv Kirpalani from Florida International University, impressed DiGeronimo with his insight to protect the most important aspect of a business, the data.  Kirpalani’s easy-to-use guide outlined prevention, detection and deletion tools such as antivirus and spyware.

Kirpalani’s essay is just one example of how students add immediate value to businesses.  Fifteen of the essays/tech guides are posted at TechStudents.net with links to the students' profiles.  The students' tech guides provide cost-effective tips such as backing-up data, building a website and implementing a wireless network.

"We'll continue to add tech guides to the site when we award the next scholarship in January,” says DiGeronimo.  “And, to contribute to the Hurricane Katrina and Rita efforts, we'll allocate one of two scholarships in January to a tech student from the devastated area who submits an application."

Successful to date, students and entrepreneurs both agree that TechStudents.net is a valuable resource.  "The work I've found through TechStudents.net at BSK Consulting is extremely rewarding both financially and professionally," says Oliver Barrett, technology student at Cleveland Institute of Art.  And, Brad Kleinman of BSK Consulting says, "Oliver's made a major impact on how effectively we do business."

Smart Business Magazine just presented Ms. DiGeronimo with an Innovation Award for TechStudents.net.  She was one of only five recipients and the only woman to receive the award in the Cleveland area.  The media has started to "champion" the smart simplicity of DiGeronimo's useful concept because it is so helpful to businesses and students alike.  Larry Jordon, a small business owner from Fort Worth, TX recently read about TechStudents.net and found a student match within hours after posting a job.  Jordon says, "This is a great concept…works like a charm."

Since its inception in 2004, TechStudents.net has created a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs, students, small business organizations and corporate technology sponsors to work together and create a seasoned technology workforce while supporting entrepreneurism throughout the U.S.
